“…behold, a door was opened in heaven…behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne…and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald…And out of the throne proceeded lightnings…and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne…And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal…And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.” (Revelation 4:1-6 & 22:1)
I’m not sure if I have mentioned it yet, but my husband LOVES to sail! In fact our whole family loves to go sailing. It is so wonderful to be out on the water, with no sound but the wind blowing the sails, and the water lapping against the side of the boat. No loud engines. No exhaust. Just God’s creation. My favorite time, though, is at the end of the day, when we have anchored in a quiet cove, sitting in the cockpit drinking hot tea, and watching the sunset. There is nothing as beautiful as a sunset reflected on water. Now, sunsets are beautiful behind trees, and over hills and fields, but when they are over water they are magnified, expanded, and made more glorious –they are spectacular! A little taste of heaven here on earth.
In our ladies Bible study this year, my wonderful group of ladies and I have been going through a book about heaven, and it is a great study (I highly recommend this book: ‘Heaven is a Place’ by Debi Pryde). We recently read about the crystal river in heaven, coming out of God’s throne and how the light of His glory surrounds the throne, and is reflected in that crystal river. Can you imagine how absolutely magnificent it will be? I mean, there is God’s Glory –Overwhelming Awesome Light—and then, if that is not spectacular enough –it is reflected, magnified, and compounded by the crystal shining river! WOW! THAT gives new meaning to: “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9)
So, now I know why I get that glow in my heart when I see a sunrise or sunset, with its glorious array of color reflected and amplified by the water beneath it—it is a little glimpse of heaven on earth!
Thank you, Lord!
