“Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood.” Proverbs 30:33
One of my favorite British sayings is, “Bob’s-yer-Uncle.” It means “there you have it”, or, as the French would say, “voila!”. You would use it when trying to explain a simple procedure with a predictable outcome. For example, one might say, “take 2 slices of bread, put some butter on them, put a slice of cheese between them, and Bob’s-yer-Uncle, you’ve got a cheese sandwich!” Isn’t that fabulous? I think its roots come from a man named Robert who had a high government position and practiced nepotism, naturally giving his nephew a high ranking job in the government. Because Bob was his uncle! That tickles my funny bone!
The Bible is full of statements, if…then statements, that give predictable outcomes to our behaviors – and without being irreverent, I would like to share some “Bob’s-yer-Uncle” statements:
*“Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood” (Proverbs 30:33). This verse states the practical and obvious – if you shake up milk, Bob’s-yer-Uncle, you produce butter, and if you wrench someone’s nose, Bob’s-yer-Uncle, it will bleed!
* “For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption” (Galatians 6:8). In other words – live your life feeding your fleshly desires, being selfish, not caring about others and (Bob’s-yer-uncle) you will have problems!
* “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love” (John 15:10). “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed” (John 8:31). Or, live your life according to Jesus’ commandments, serving Him and others, and (Bob’s-yer-Uncle) you are a disciple of Jesus Christ – God’s love will be in you and shining through you to others.
*”This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16). Are you battling your flesh? Are you having a bit of a bother with a besetting sin? Walk in the Spirit – feed your spirit by spending time in fervent sincere prayer, diligent Bible study, and genuine ministering, and (Bob’s-yer-Uncle) it will be much easier not to give in to the lust of the flesh because you are replacing what you are avoiding with something much better!
* “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9). Thus, believe in Jesus’ substitional death, burial, and resurrection to pay the price for your sins, confess your belief to others, and (Bob’s-yer-Uncle) you are saved/born-again/redeemed, and heaven bound. So many religions state that you must DO something in order to be saved – Baptism, Church attendance, giving money, sacraments, etc. etc. But, according to God’s Word, salvation is really very simple, we don’t need to add any works to it, just believe! The works will come as a result of gratefulness for the grace that has been bestowed upon you.
There are many others, why not find some Bob’s-yer-Uncle passages for yourself? It will make you smile.
